Themed Weddings

Sorry this one is a little later then normal.  I have been dong weddings all weekend and those people are my first priority.
Themed weddings.  They can be a lot of work for the bride and groom as well as the guests.  There is planning, coordinating, getting the right supplies, and making sure that everyone is going to be able to go through with it.
I did a wedding this weekend where the bride dressed as Wonder Woman and the groom as Superman.  The wedding party all dressed as a super hero.  Some of the guests dressed in outfits as well.  It was a good wedding and got a lot of attention from people in the park where it was held.  I dressed in the colors of most super heros blue, red and yellow tie.  The photographer dressed in the same colors as well.  Even though it took some planning (and begging) on the part of the bride and groom, all went well.
The second wedding of the same day took place at midnight in a park.  The bride and groom wore pajamas and I did as well.  It was only the three of us there for that wedding.  It was a simple wedding that meant a lot to the couple.  They were both every happy and loved every minute of the ceremony.
I never thought that I would be able to weddings like this.  I was wrong.  I had a great time and enjoyed every minute of the ceremonies. So, to brides and grooms that are thinking of a themed and dressed wedding, I say go for it!!!!  It is what you make it, it is your day, not the guests, parents or even the people you hire to make it happen.  Think it through plan and enjoy.

Blessings on your day,
Phillip Boone

What should I pay the officiant?

I have been asked why I charge what I charge and why are some more than mine.  I look at it this way.  I am doing this out of a calling.  I am not doing this to make my retirement or be the million dollar officiant on Bravo TV.  I enjoy what I do and enjoy seeing the look on the faces of the bride and groom.  Watching the tears, smiles, and hugs.  That is my pay day.
One of my couples said that they searched for many months to find the right officiant and once they talked with me they knew I was the right one.  I am just myself.  Do I need to charge more for the experience and the amount of time I have been doing this?  I don't think I should.
When you are searching for anyone to do a job for you remember a few things:
  • More experience does not always mean the right fit your you.
  • Because they charge more they are better at the job they do. Cheaper rates means not a good job.
  • If the person you hire won't work with you on things that are out of anyone's control, that is not good.
  • Respect each other for the job they do and for what you are expecting.

Ask around and look at reviews of the person you are hiring.  That is the most important of all.

Weddings on Boats!!!!

I have had the pleasure of officaiting two weddings on boats.  This was a new and fun experience for me.  One was on Lake Travis and the other on Lady Bird Lake.  Two different styles of boats were used.  Amazingly, no one got sea sickness.  We just had trouble walking on land after being on the water for so long.
A few tips for those thinking of a boat wedding.
Rough waves make for a rough wedding.  The bridal party being tossed around is not a good idea.
If, there is drinking of alcohol on board please be sure that the wedding party is still sober enough for the ceremony.
Make it as fun as possible.  See where the boats take you and what the sightseeing may invovle.  I saw the bats fly out from under Congress Street Bridge from a boat.
Have music that will keep eveyone interested during the time out on the water.
Most of all Have a Fun Time and enjoy.

Blessings on your day.

Planning a wedding and sticking to it.

Planning a wedding is a great tasks.  Start early when planning, make a timeline of when things need to be done, set a budget, and have all your vendors in place before hand.  This will take the stress and hassle off the bride (most of the time), and the groom.  As a couple work together to do the planning, remember it is not just one person's wedding it is both of yours. Make sure you have a go to person for the day of the wedding.  The vendors like to have a person that they can count on to help things flow.  I, as the minister always ask for a go to person.  It has made the wedding day much easier.  We have been able to catch things and get them fixed so the bride and groom don't have to worry.
Keeping the ceremony on time is very important.  You have quests waiting and they may have plans later.  There are also the vendors.  You have them for a specfic time frame most will charge extra for time used or at the end of that time will leave due to other engagments that they have.  That is not fair to you to have vendors leave because of a late starting time.
With all this being said, have fun on your special day, make it enjoyable for everyone and most of all enjoy the bliss of your marriage from this day forward and forever and ever.

Blessings on you all have a good July 4th.
